What about the iPhone app guys?
  • Brian Potter · 6 months ago
Great updates! Posting in the forum now.
  • Dirka · 6 months ago
I am definitely excited that you guys are working on a website redesign but here is my input based on those mockups. The function of the site looks like it will be great, but from an atheistic viewpoint, I would love to see the website take more of an Apple interface look rather than a sterile PC looking interface.
  • Sam B. · 6 months ago
    I agree with Dirka.
  • lukepuuk · 4 months ago
I Don't agree. I think the Google cleanyness is perfect the kind of site dropbox is.
  • Lukepuukisajoke · 4 months ago
    "Google cleanyness"?

What a logo on a white background with a search box?

If you are meaning to say "simple and clean", like an Apple product or the Apple website then we can agree. Google is not known for having the best design. I think it would be wiser from Dropbox to follow industry leaders.

Great work guys. Dropbox definetly became one of the most imporant tools that I rely on in everday business. Keep that frequency of introducing awesome new features.

Thanks to our growing team I am really looking forward to the P2P Lan syncing. Syncing people over the Internet is starting to be a little bit of a bandwidth hog ;)
  • Chamyky · 6 months ago
This is great! I personally love the interface and it grows better and better!
If I was to make a suggestion: all these checkboxes make the page look cluttered. You should only show a checkbox (or: all the checkboxes) if the mouse is above its corresponding item or if it's checked. This would add to the clarity and the estheticism without reducing the functionality.
    Nice work anyway!
  • Shane · 6 months ago
awesome, i've been waiting for the tree-structure online interface :) good job!

    "P2P Lan Syncing"

    Great!
  • fuxter · 6 months ago
    i dream of this!
  • Waldemar Schott · 6 months ago
    The second screenshot looks nice.

But please add an additional row to select some files like "Select All", "Select None", "Select Deleted" like in Gmail.

To save some screen estate you could merge the top nav bar with the dropbox logo.

Are there any shortcuts like in Gmail? e.g. move (v), Delete (#)

That redesign looks wonderful. I've found it, not difficult as such, but not as appealing I guess, in the past. This is going to be such an improvement!
  • RogueDarkJedi · 6 months ago
I don't think the new design looks that great but w/e, I'll know it when I use it.
  • Dread Knight · 6 months ago
    Congrats for winning!

The new website design is a huge improvement, this is coming from a graphic designer / usability expert ;)
Looking forward to see it in action!

Looking sick! Can't wait to use it.

Looks great guys!! I would like to see the option to select which folder in my Dropbox get synced with a certain computer.
  • spacebear · 6 months ago
    Hey there,

great to hear that an update is in the making, and it's looking really great! Especially love the search feature, I was waiting a looong time for that :)

Let me make two minor suggestions though:

    - The big icons on the home page are not too useful, at least not for me, because I don't need to take a tour of Dropbox every time I'm logging in :) Neither do I have to link a new computer too often. The ability to customize those icons would be awesome! Or alternatively one could specify a different tab as starting page - I, personally, use the "Files" tab by far most often :)

    - The background blue maybe could be a tad bit lighter, it would bring slightly more "air" into the whole interface. At the moment it looks a little heavy at first glance.

Apart from those minor things, it's looking awesome! Really looking forward to it! Keep it up :)

    All the best
    Al
  • Matt · 6 months ago
Yeah agree with spacebar about the homepage icons. I can't see myself needing any of these options very often so it would feel like a bit of an unecessary page. Agree that either being able to customize those links or set a different default starting page would be useful.

    The rest looks great though.

Glad to hear you're still working on lower memory footprint.

I'm using Dropbox to allow friends to update their own websites on my webserver. It's a great solution, since it provides history and a very easy interface for them. But on a cheap little virtual private server, Dropbox consumes more than half the system memory!

It's very disappointing that the team has not been able to deliver an iPhone app in so many months. SugarSync has now iPhone, Windows Mobile, and BlackBerry
  • hurley · 6 months ago
Yeah, that's the only complain you can make to them
  • John iPhone · 6 months ago
Unfortunately I have another one that's bigger. I cannot sync and backup any folder(s) in my machine (and exclude sub-folders). It's too limiting for serious work usage.
  • nelson_blaha · 6 months ago
Don't forget Android! I love Dropbox, though, I'm not disappointed in it, especially since I can get to dropbox on the web interface on android. Still, a syncing app would be bad-ass.
  • Keely · 6 months ago
Yay for left-pane folder trees and search dialogue boxes. I like them!

'the release of the Linux CLI' -- is there an official CLI-only client? that would be great!
  • Andreas Stokholm · 6 months ago
The new design is so sweet
And that's got me in heat
    I'm serious
    And rather curious
    Those 50 gigs
    Got me shakin' ma' hips!

    Hi !
Great to hear news outside the forum :)
And one more time thank you for this so great apps: Smart, Simple, Powerfull

What about folder filters sync ;-)
  • Eric Philpott · 6 months ago
I'm going for the 50 GB lifetime. Hope I'm on the right thread, but here goes ...

    Some files were adrift in-between
    Their writers' and editors' screens
    It all came together
Like cold beer in warm weather
When Dropbox arrived on the scene

    or here's another one:

There once was folder called Dropbox
Where nothing has ever gone lost
    It works on-the-fly
    As our docs multiply
(Wish I had one for tracking my socks)

    and another:

Attachments to emails have their place
But working files need a shared space
    So now, with Dropbox,
    And tracking that rocks
Our workflow's now flowing with grace

Even better use of dropbox.. Looks very promising.
I recently blogged about me being a drop box.. fan!

Looking forward to see the updates.

    Hey guys, nice work!
I personally love this web-tool and use it every single day.

I'm looking forward to seeing the iPhone app!!! =)

    keep up the great work

I am ecstatic to see a search feature on the left, at long last. Please, whatever you do, don't axe that!
  • arne · 5 months ago
hi! great improovements! one thing i would love to see is a icon-view (so i can get a quick overview of different files mixed with images in one folder - without having the photos in a "album")

    thanks! keep on rocking

    picture, files and mp3s
    spread across virtual seas
    the volume grows and grows
    like water from a hose
50 gigs of Dropbox if you please
  • Joao Filipe · 5 months ago
    Hey guys,
Just passing by to praise you for the great work that has been done so far.

I'm pretty sure you must be already working on the an iPhone App so I'd like to tell us my point of view, as a daily user of the service. If you are thinking of a paid App you must consider that the costumers just don't want something useless like the other Apps in the App Store. Here are some tipps:

    - upload from iPhone
As your business is online storage, how about the user to be able to upload fotos, musics and docs on-the-go? The more possibilities to upload, the more space one needs, the bigger the chances for one to upgrade for a paid account.

    - offline documents
No App has it. You would be great to improve it, right?

    Only my opinions dudes.
    Keep up the great work.
  • Saul · 5 months ago
I just wanted to say thank you. I have been using Dropbox for about two months now and don't know how I lived with out it. Keep up the great work!
  • originalp · 5 months ago
So who won the 50GB account give away?
I am too anxiously waiting the iPhone app, hope it's free or at least reasonably priced and it's available to Free account users not just paid users (ala Remember the Milk, iPhone app free with paid subscription). Make it so that free users can purchase the app too!
The redesign is looking good but I have no complains on the site's design as it is right now so (to me) that can wait...!
  • Mark · 5 months ago
I am ALL about the iPhone app IF it allows offline storage. Currently, I carry some documents on my phone with AirShare, but syncing is not possible. If I could sync files with my iPhone, I would DEFINITELY be willing to pay for an app. Please include that capability.
  • Tobias · 5 months ago
I dont like the idea of a dashboard for dropbox. Why would I want a dashboard. There are some very important usecases like looking at my files or at my event-history. Those button on the new dashoard are much much less important usecases.
Please dont change it this way. I will have to klick one more time each time I visit the page.
  • pflynn · 5 months ago
The first pic show the account as 24gb is that a sign of things to come!?! C'mon the demand is out there for a 25gb account! :D
  • Thomas · 5 months ago
Eagerly waiting for the iphone app! This is great news!

One thing I might do on your second mockup is include a search field above the file browser on the left of the second image. Always nice to have search nearby.
