I have Dropbox in my Laptop with Ubuntu and I use it to sync my files with Windows in VirtualBox, it works great !
I also have it on my Ipod, so it cannot get any better I guess.

i wouldn't say "without any hitches!" if you run out of space on your harddrive (something I do frequently if i forget to transfer stuff to my external on my older laptop with a 35gb hdd) dropbox gets all crashy and you have to reinstall the nautilus-daemon to get it to run right again.

I'm a long time Linux user and Ubuntu fan and, while I've used Ubuntu One, it's obviously not as mature or feature-rich as Dropbox yet. I think it's alpha software, or beta at best.

I've had no major issues with Dropbox since I began using it on Linux well over a year ago.

Ubuntu One, on the other hand has been a consistent headache, so I've un-installed it for the time being.

I like the idea of supporting Free Software and Open Source projects, but it's really important that the tools that we use actually work consistently and reliably, so I'm sticking with Dropbox.

Mekk, have you thought about moving any application files you need sync'ed to DropBox and creating symlinks in the application folder? Works okay for me (though not really used in anger).

I tested Ubuntu One for a few days (even reviewed it - http://notatnik.mekk.waw.pl... - warning: Polish). Dropbox is much, much better.
a) Conflict detection
b) Versioning
c) Stability
d) Speed
e) Interface quality, usability

The only thing Ubuntu One may have advantage at (once they stabilize) is application-aware sync (notes, bookmarks, contacts and such). But for file sync Dropbox is giant step ahead.

Regarding the app-aware sync: have you ever considered adding some kind of API?

It's a reference to Ubuntu One, by the way. http://one.ubuntu.com/. The Ubuntu service has the same pricing, but as yet has not Windows or Mac client. But it's a full open source client (unlike dropbox). Serverside is closed source (same as dropbox).

I've helped build Ubuntu One from the first line of code, and I'd just like to say that I respect Dropbox and your team a lot. It's a fine product! Keep up the great work :)

Also, we've delberately built some of the other Ubuntu One features like the contacts database in a way to specifically enable other products/projects to integrate - making things work together is good for the end user no matter how you slice it, so I'd love to help Dropbox work with contact syncing etc. For more info, check out https://launchpad.net/deskt... .

Works perfectly for me both on Jaunty and Karmic.
When you need a syncing software for your business you need something that works without problem. I'm little bit sad that I have to use proprietary software and that's a concession I have to make.
So for the time being I'll stay with Dropbox :)

Like Pedro above mentioned, you have you use a lower-case k in Karmic for the lines to work. Making that change worked for me :)

I've also re-read the TOS, and it seems I was mistaking about it being prohibited to have multiple accounts. Which of course makes the whole idea much more attractive!
